Thanjavur is formerly known as Tanjore. It's the capital of Chola Dynasty. In early Chola shifted their capital from Thuraiyur. Then later Chola shifted their capital to Tanjore. At that time Tanjore is well developed city and major populated city in the region.

                    In 2013 Tamil Nadu chief minister J.Jayalalitha announced Tanjore is upgraded from Municipality into Municipal corporation status. In nowadays Tanjore is well developing city in Tamilnadu. It's famous for Painting, Arts, Etc....,
